Behind the Keyboard: Meet Laura

Welcome to our new Behind the Keyboard series, where we're introducing the people behind the screens, emails, social media posts, and campground updates!

First up is Laura.

I'm a mom to four amazing kids, a part-time Occasional Teacher, the Recreation Coordinator for Daiva RV, and part of the management team at Camp Hillbilly Muskoka.

Camping has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up on a 300-acre farm, some of my favourite childhood memories involve pitching a tent out in the fields and spending the night under the stars. As I got older, my family began exploring campgrounds throughout Southern Ontario, making memories around campfires long before smartphones and social media existed.

My love for camping continued into my teen years when I had the opportunity to travel across British Columbia and Alberta in an RV, experiencing some of Canada's most breathtaking scenery. As an adult I was able to camp in Kapuskasing, Ontario on a road trip. Talk about beautiful views!

Seven years ago, I found my way to Camp Hillbilly as a seasonal camper, joining my parents and sister, who already had trailers there. What started as a family camping tradition quickly became a second home.

One of the things I treasure most about campground life is being able to raise my children in an environment that encourages them to be kids. They spend their summers biking around the campground, playing manhunt with friends, catching frogs, attending events, and creating the kind of core memories that last a lifetime. Watching them enjoy the same unplugged, outdoor childhood that I was fortunate enough to have is incredibly special.

When I'm not organizing events, teaching, or chasing after my kids, you'll most likely find me relaxing in my hammock with a good book. Every mom needs a little downtime, and camping gives me the perfect balance of family time, community connection, and self-care.

I'm excited to be part of the Daiva RV family and look forward to helping create memorable experiences for campers across our campgrounds.

See you around the campfire!
