Spring Trailer Opening Checklist

As winter finally loosens its grip and the first signs of spring start peeking through, excitement begins to build across the campground. Soon the laughter, campfires, and long evenings outdoors will return. But before you settle in for another great season, it’s time to give your trailer a little spring TLC.

To help you ease back into campground life, here’s a friendly, practical checklist to make sure your trailer is safe, clean, and ready for months of relaxation.

1. Start with an Exterior Inspection

Winter can be tough on trailers, even when they’re tucked away. A quick walk‑around can save you from surprises later.

Visual Check

Take a slow lap around your trailer and look for any visible damage, loose trim, or wear that may have appeared over the winter months.

Lights

Make sure all exterior lights are working properly. Replace any burnt‑out bulbs so you’re road‑ready and safe.

Roof & Seals

Your roof and seals are your first line of defence against leaks.

  • Inspect the roof for cracks, soft spots, or signs of water damage.

  • Check seals around windows and doors for deterioration.

Catching issues early prevents costly repairs later.

2. Freshen Up the Interior

Once you step inside, it’s time to shake off the winter dust and bring your trailer back to life.

Thorough Cleaning

  • Sweep and mop floors

  • Dust surfaces

  • Clean windows

A clean space always feels more welcoming after months of being closed up.

Ventilation

Open windows and vents to let fresh spring air flow through. This helps clear out any musty odours that settled in during the off‑season.

Check Appliances

Test everything:

  • Stove

  • Refrigerator

  • Microwave

If you use propane, make sure all connections are secure and functioning properly.

Water System

  • Reconnect your water supply

  • Flush out any remaining antifreeze

  • Check all plumbing for leaks

A few minutes here can prevent a soggy surprise later.

3. Mechanical & Electrical Systems

Before you get too comfortable, make sure your essential systems are ready for the season.

Battery

If you removed your battery for winter storage, reinstall it and ensure it’s fully charged.

Electrical Systems

  • Test all outlets

  • Check interior lights

  • Ensure your power system is functioning properly

Safety Detectors

Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Replace batteries if needed. These small devices make a big difference.

4. Restock & Refresh Your Supplies

Now for the fun part - getting your trailer feeling like home again.

Kitchen Supplies

  • Restock non‑perishable foods

  • Check expiration dates on anything left from last season

Bedding & Linens

Wash everything so your first night back feels fresh and cozy. Replace anything that didn’t survive storage.

Safety Equipment

  • Make sure your fire extinguisher is charged and easy to access

  • Refill or replace items in your first aid kit

Preparedness is always appreciated when you’re out enjoying nature.

Welcome Back to the Season

By taking a little time to go through this checklist, you’ll set yourself up for a smooth, comfortable, and enjoyable season at your site. Spring is a time of renewal, and giving your trailer a fresh start helps you make the most of every sunny day ahead.

Here’s to warm weather, good company, and another unforgettable season at the campground.
